Between The Tides (After Walter Langley), Pencil (nfs)
My pencil drawing is a section from a fine piece of 'Social Realism' art by Walter Langley, founder of the Newlyn School of plein air artists. His and their depiction of the working class crafted with such a passion and realism drew many other artists to portray their way of life, notably Stanhope Alexander Forbes RA.
This is only a small piece measuring some 6" x 4" (15cm x 10cm) drawn in pencil onto Ingres paper, probably in hindsight not the best surface to draw something quite small on as the "tooth" of the paper is too rough for detailed work, whereas something like 'Strathmore 500 Series Plate Finish Bristol Board' would certainly do the trick!
Please feel free to contact me regarding commissions, I am always willing to accept them for drawing, painting, Illustration, designing etc, (depending on current workloads), please drop me a line via the 'Contact us' from the drop down menu above to discuss your requirements, thank you.

Drawing & Sketching
I have always been passionate about drawing and sketching as it is the foundation to all of my art. Clear, concise draughtsmanship in pencil, charcoal, silverpoint etc is the pattern to which I try to work by. There have been some truly great draughtsmen/women throughout the history of art, from Leonardo da Vinci to Giovanni Antonio Canal (better known as Canaletto). More recently Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Berthe Morisot and of course Edgar Degas were superb exponents of the craft. I just hope that in some way I can do it justice.
