.
As mentioned elsewhere here in my website galleries, drawing and sketching are fundamental to my work ethic where art is concerned. Understanding again how famous artists (in this instance Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec) have arrived at a certain point within their paintings or drawings is interesting above all for me and something I like to try for myself. I know it is only a pastiche of their work but enjoyable to do, they just seemed to use the right models in the right pose with exactly the right expressions! I guess that's what makes an artist truly great in that their work just looks and feels "right".

The original Portrait of Gabrielle is a lovely example of Lautrec's work, Gabrielle was, I believe a dancer at the Moulin Rouge and she can be seen in other works by him, notably 'The Dancer' (1890).

Drawn in a 'softish' sepia brown coloured pencil onto a buff coloured sugar paper, it seemed just right for this subject. Having said before that I am not precious about having the right paper etc for the job, although it is important with some projects certainly.

I am always willing to accept commissions for drawing, painting, Illustration and designing etc, (depending on current workloads), please feel free to drop me a line via the 'Contact Us' page to discuss your requirements, thank you.
